Therapy Programs
Yampa Valley Autism Program believes that therapy should not be used to “fix” people. People who think differently are not broken. Instead, we use therapy to teach skills that may not come easily to some people, like social skills or ways to work around gaps in executive functioning. We strive to help children and youth to accomplish their goals and live their best lives.
YVAP employs two Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who lead a therapy program based on positive reinforcement, kindness, and respect for differences.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy
Often regarded as the “gold standard” of autism therapies, ABA is individualized therapy tailored to meet a person’s specific, targeted, and tracked goals.
ABA is evidence-based therapy which has been shown to improve:
- Communication
- Language ability
- Cognitive ability
- Adaptive skills
- Social interactive behavior
Improvements in these areas can lead to improved:
- Academic performance and classroom behavior
- Social skills
- Family interactions
- Job performance
- Daily living skills
Who is ABA for?
Children with a variety of diagnoses can benefit from ABA therapy, but most insurance will only cover costs for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Private pay options are available. We are happy to discuss if ABA therapy might be beneficial for your child.
Insurance?
We accept private insurance and Medicaid.
Scholarships
YVAP believes no child should be denied therapy services due to their family’s inability to pay.
YVAP offers scholarships for uninsured and underinsured children whose families meet income qualifications.
YVAP’s scholarship program is funded by grants and private donations. Want to be a part of ensuring health equity in the Yampa Valley? Donate today!
How to get started
Social Skills Groups
Using principles of ABA, we conduct group therapy sessions that focus on building social skills that can help children interact with their peers, participate in group activities, and build friendships.
Children learn skills like:
- How to engage in conversation (asking relevant questions, transitioning to new topics)
- What is sarcasm
- How to read body language
- How to be flexible
Who is Social Skills Groups for?
- Children do not need a diagnosis to participate in social skills group therapy.
- YVAP offers social skills groups based on age and gender. We also offer a non-binary and gender non-conforming group for youth.
- Social skills groups can be used to bridge the gap in therapy services when children are on the waitlist for individual ABA therapy or waiting for an autism evaluation.
Insurance?
Social skills groups are generally not covered under insurance. Each session costs $35.
